In recent years there has been a large increase it popularity when it comes to the Polar Express. So much so that local train companies in the Louisville area have added Polar Express train rides to their holiday line up.

Which is why I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about some of the Polar Express options near Louisville, Kentucky.

There aren’t any in Louisville city limits, but there are plenty within a reasonable driving distance.

Here’s the most important thing that you need to know about the Polar Express trains in Louisville.

They sell out quickly. As in they sell out before Halloween quickly. So if you want to have that experience, I would book as soon as you possibly can.

Polar Express, French Lick, Indiana

Update: All First Class and Dome Class and Coach seats are sold out for the 2023 season.

In French Lick, Indiana there is a Polar Express experience that runs early November through December 23rd. Tickets range from $35 (value dates) $40 (peak dates) for coach passengers, $60 (value dates) $65 (peak dates) for first class passengers and $85 (value dates) $90 (peak dates) for dome class passengers.

When the train pulls into the North Pole, we pick up Santa Claus himself and he presents each child with their own “first gift of the season”, a shiny silver sleigh bell. You will also be entertained by Santa’s elves with interactive songs and dance that everyone can participate in.

We took our oldest on this particular train when he was about 3 years old. The scenery isn’t particularly beautiful, but it would be pretty magical with a fresh layer of snow. Santa and Mrs. Clause made their rounds on the train ride and of course, Polar Express was read during the journey.

North Pole Express, Bardstown, Kentucky

In Bardstown, Kentucky, take a ride on the North Pole Express! Passengers will enjoy a 3-course meal and hot chocolate of course!

This event often sells out before Thanksgiving so if you think that this is an event that you and your family would enjoy, I would encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as you can.

Ingredients

4 Cups Whole Milk

1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar

4 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

LOTS of marshmallows.

Directions

In a medium saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until scalding but not quite boiling, stirring frequently. Stir in sugar, cocoa, vanilla extract until combined.

Pour into mugs and top with lots of marshmallows!
